GWUI FSU launches living wage campaign in Game Sector

31 May 2022

The Financial Services Union (FSU) which represents staff in the Game sector has launched a campaign to ensure that all employers in the sector sign up to be a living wage employer.

The Game Workers Unite Ireland (GWUI) branch of FSU are meeting this weekend to discuss this and other issues affecting workers in the sector.

Commenting on the campaign Gareth Murphy, Head of Industrial Relations and Campaigns in the FSU said:

“The FSU have written to the main employers in the Game sector urging them all to sign up to our campaign to ensure that no one working in the sector earns less than the living wage.

Games is a highly profitable sector with a creative and skilled workforce. Unfortunately, in research we carried out it is evident that not all workers in the sector are paid above the Living Wage. This particularly effects workers in Quality Assurance roles, some localisation roles and admin/support services.

We are calling on employers in the sector here in Ireland to recognise that the living wage is the minimum that any employee should be paid and to sign up to our living wage charter.

This would send a strong signal to their staff that their issues and concerns are understood by their employers.

I am delighted that the Union approach has been endorsed by the Unions Game sector organising committee and we look forward to positive engagement with employers in the coming weeks.”
