Google need to provide clarity to staff on further redundancy proposals.
11 January 2024
Time for Google to engage constructively with employee representatives – says FSU.
The Financial Services Union have called on Google to provide clarity to its employees on recent developments around possible additional redundancies in some areas of the company. These redundancies would be in addition to the redundancies previously announced in 2023.
John O’Connell, General Secretary of the FSU said:
“We have been notified this morning by members affected that there appears to be more redundancies happening in Google in a number of areas across the company.
Google need to provide clarity on how many staff are affected, what areas in the company that will be effected and importantly engage constructively with employee representatives.
We are extremely concerned the company is pursuing redundancies in a manner that is designed to avoid the collective redundancy process.
We call on the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Simon Coveney TD. to state if he is satisfied that Google are behaving within the constraints set down in legislation governing collective redundancies.
The FSU have held a meeting with Google members this morning where members expressed their disappointment and annoyance at yet more redundancies.
The FSU will be writing to the company seeking immediate engagement on the issue.”
