FSU welcome AIB announcement of an end to its Promotion and Recruitment Embargo
19 October 2021
The Financial Services Union has welcomed the announcement by AIB, that it is ending what they termed their “Special Measures”, which ultimately means the end of their current Recruitment and Promotion embargo.
Commenting on the announcement Billy Barrett, Senior Industrial Relations Officer with the FSU said:
“There is no doubt had it not been for the actions of our members and the Unions continued pressure on the employer to lift the embargo that these special measures would have continued for a lot longer.
The ending of the embargo is very much welcome. The imposition of the embargo has had negative impacts for customers and on staff across the business. Staff have had to endure for too long the requirement to take on extra accountabilities with no reward from the employer. This has had a detrimental effect on staff moral within the Bank.
There was no shortage of examples provided by staff of where they had been asked to take on accountabilities above their current role.
We expect the Bank to honour its commitments and ensure that promotion and career progression becomes a core element of the Banks strategic vision for its staff and for the future of the business “
