Financial Services Union seek urgent meeting with Minister over Credit Union pension debacle.

29 January 2022

The Financial Services Union have written to Sean Fleming TD the Minister for State at the Department of Finance looking for an urgent meeting to discuss reports about a reported funding shortfall in the pension fund covering thousands of credit union staff.

Commenting, the General Secretary of the Financial Services Union, John O’Connell said :

“The reports in the media over the last couple of days are very worrying for staff and for credit unions across the Country.

We have been contacted by angry staff who feel bewildered by the media reports and are worried about the viability of their pension entitlements into the future.

It is intolerable that staff and their representatives have not being briefed fully on the findings of PWC.

It is not acceptable that staff had to hear about the problems from media reports.

The FSU have written today to Minister Fleming requesting an urgent meeting where we expect complete transparency from the Minister in providing full disclosure to the profoundly fundamental questions that have been raised in the last few days. We will be seeking assurances from the Minister on behalf of staff and pensioners that immediate negotiations will take place prior to any decisions been taken

The Central Bank as regulator also needs to provide answers on how they have carried out their regulatory role in this instance and what actions they have taken to resolve the issue.”
